I’m very honored to have received the endorsement of Chief Criminal Deputy Mike Evans, the third highest ranking member of the Clark County Sheriff’s Office. The Chief Criminal Deputy oversees the entire enforcement branch of the sheriff’s office and is responsible for all patrol operations, investigations, and specialized units like SWAT, Marine Patrol, Traffic, and the Tactical Detective Unit.
Chief Evans is a graduate of the FBI National Academy executive leadership school and is known as an early leader in advocating community policing within the sheriff’s office.
Here is his letter:
“I have had the honor of serving as a deputy sheriff with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office for over 36 years (I am retiring at the end of 2014). During that time I have served in every rank found in the enforcement branch, and have spent the last 20 years in senior leadership positions. During my career I have worked with and supervised both of our candidates for sheriff. It is clear that one candidate has a vastly superior record and experience history.
Chuck Atkins served and led in a wide variety of positions and ranks, to include Assistant Chief Criminal Deputy. He served as one of the original “outreach” deputies when he worked with our youth as a D.A.R.E. officer. He commanded the regional SWAT team, where he was required to manage personnel, budgets, equipment, and make tough operational decisions on critical missions. He was the project lead for the ground breaking “Rapid Responder” mapping project that vastly improved safety in our schools. He is a man of honor and integrity who places others before self. He has always had and maintained a community oriented vision for the Sheriff’s Office and our mission.
As our community moves forward in a complicated world, we must choose our leaders wisely. The safety, quality of life, and overall sense of security is vital in order for our community to remain the vibrant place that sets Clark County apart. A highly qualified, capable sheriff is a critical key to our future.
There is, in my opinion, really only one candidate with the demonstrated leadership, experience, and ability to serve as our sheriff. That is why I endorse Chuck Atkins for our next Clark County Sheriff.”
